Centers of Excellent CARE
Esophageal Disorders

The physicians of the Digestive CARE Centers of Excellent CARE in the diagnosis and treatment of Esophageal Disorders begin with a careful review of the patient’s symptoms. Often initial treatment will include lifestyle and dietary changes and possibly medications. Our physicians working in the Center of Excellent CARE use advanced endoscopic procedures to examine the lining of the esophagus while allowing treatment to be done at the time of initial diagnosis. Occasionally advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions will be required to further study muscle function of the esophagus, acid exposure of the esophagus and sampling of the esophageal tissue.

When medical management and/or therapeutic endoscopic procedures do not resolve the patient’s problems, the gastroenterologists of Digestive CARE work closely with and coordinate treatment with other specialists, such as surgeons, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists and Cancer specialists, in the care of patients.

Heartburn and reflux can lead to more serious conditions. Seeking treatment early is the best way to guard against GERD and Barrett’s Esophagus. Our doctors provide customized treatment options for each patient in the relaxed setting of our offices rather than a hospital or University.

Primary illnesses treated include:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) including refractory heartburn
  • Atypical chest pain and swallowing disorders
  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis
  • Barrett’s Esophagus and esophageal strictures
